物語

野晒(のざらし)は、野に晒された白骨を表す意匠で、無常観を象徴する図柄として古くより好まれてきた。骸骨は単なる怪異ではなく、生命の儚さと時間の経過を示す寓意的主題である。

Four Ojime with Skull (Nozarashi) Motif

A group of four ojime beads carved in the form of human skulls.

Two are in light-toned material and the others in darker material. Each displays subtle differences in carving style, particularly in the treatment of the eye sockets and teeth, revealing individual craftsmanship despite their small scale.

The nozarashi (exposed skull) motif has long appeared in Japanese art as a symbol of impermanence and the transient nature of life. Rather than macabre imagery, it reflects a contemplative aesthetic aligned with the concept of memento mori.

Though functional as ojime components, these pieces also possess sculptural presence, making them appealing both as sagemono elements and as standalone miniature carvings.
