肉髻を布包した工作が、ガンダーラ式古佛と呼び習わす様式を想起させる。釈迦を「金人」と呼び、釈迦の肉髻を肉でなく髪毛と理解した時代である。ならば、4世紀、五胡十六国の時代に相当することになる。故柳孝氏家伝来。

“The depiction of the ushnisha wrapped in cloth evokes the style traditionally referred to as Gandhāran early Buddhist sculpture. This reflects a time when the Buddha was called the ‘Golden Man’ and the ushnisha was understood not as a protrusion of flesh, but as a coil of hair. Accordingly, this would correspond to the 4th century, during the period of the Sixteen Kingdoms in China.”
